Why account age matters
Length of credit history
The major scoring models weigh how long your credit accounts have existed, not just how well you've paid them. An account opened in 2010 carries a different weight than one opened last year, independent of its balance.
Average age of accounts
Your average account age is the mean age across every account on your report. Adding an older, established account — like the seasoned tradelines we list — can raise that average, especially if your current accounts are recent.
Reporting, not repair
This works through normal authorized-user reporting, the same mechanism as being added to a family member's card — not through disputing or removing anything already on your report. See What Is a Tradeline for how the reporting itself works.
Account age is one input among several — payment history, utilization, credit mix, and recent inquiries all factor in too, and every credit file is different. We don't guarantee any specific score outcome; see Guarantees and the Tradeline User Agreement for full terms.
